Trucking with a Dog

With all the open roads and new places to see, life as an OTC truck driver can be an adventure. So, why not share that adventure with a trusty companion — try trucking with your dog or cat! According to CDL Career Now, about 40% of truck drivers bring their pets along for the ride.

Savannah Transport is one of the trucking companies that allow dogs or cats in your cab. We know they’re valued members of your family, so we’re proud to call ourselves a pet-friendly company. We allow all drivers to bring a pet on board without any deposits or restrictions.

Benefits of trucking with a dog

  • Companionship: The truck driving profession can be lonely at times. Bringing a pet combats the isolation truck drivers often feel.
  • Health: Pets provide great friendship and contribute significantly to mental and physical health! Studies show that pets, especially dogs and cats, bring a calming presence to reduce stress and ease loneliness. Caring for your animal also offers an excellent opportunity to stay active, e.g., taking breaks, walking or hiking.
  • Social Interaction: People love pets! When stopping for fuel or repairs, you’ll find people are more likely to engage with you and your pet.
  • Responsibility: Pets can give you a sense of responsibility. After all, we want to give our pets the best life possible. You do this by feeding them, keeping your truck clean and spending time with them each day.

Safe travels with your pet

  • Lease or harness: A leash or harness keeps your pet close when making stops. Having your pet on a leash helps you concentrate on the road and remain in control of your truck.
  • Creating a space: Create a room in which your pet can stretch out. Avoid letting them wander about the rest of the truck while you’re on the road, creating potential hazards.
  • Plenty of fresh water, food, and treats: We all get hungry and thirsty!
  • Toys: Make sure your pet has a few chew toys, ropes or scratching posts to stay occupied during the day.
