Savannah Transport & Hoyt’s Truck Center
How did Savannah Transport become one of the best trucking companies to work for?
It all started in 1991 when Hoyt Moore became an OTC owner operator. He purchased a new 1991 T-600 Kenworth to begin hauling beef for Monfort, a Colorado refrigerated carrier.
Time on the road taught Hoyt that truck maintenance and repair are among the most critical factors for a driver’s success. So, in 1993, he and his wife Laurie opened Hoyt’s Truck Center, a truck, trailer and diesel repair shop in Northeast Kansas. In the beginning, Hoyt was the mechanic, and Laurie helped with billings in the evening. Hoyt also kept his hand in hauling, purchasing OTR trucks and hiring his own drivers. Then, he leased his trucks and drivers to Monfort and West Way for the next three years.
From flatbed to hazmat
Eventually, in 1996, Hoyt started his own trucking company. He named it Savannah Transport after his young daughter and hauled chiefly flatbed freight.
At this point, Hoyt met Terry Crawford, who worked in the operations department of a hazmat carrier. Terry and Hoyt discussed the cyclical risks most carriers faced from time to time. They finally concluded that the field of hazardous material hauling was less subject to deep downturns. So, in 2000, the two entered into a partnership, which obtained its hazardous materials authority under the Savannah Transport name.

Working together to run one of the best trucking companies
Today, Hoyt and Terry’s partnership is as strong as ever. Terry handles Savannah Transport’s day-to-day operations from West Jordan, Utah while Hoyt hires drivers and leases trucks in Topeka. Most important, Hoyt’s Truck Center continues to service all Savannah Transport’s trucks.
What’s more, another hand is approaching the helm these days. Hoyt’s daughter (who lent us her name way back in 1996) helps run things out of the Topeka office. Savannah Falley, who graduated from Washburn University with a BA and an MBA, joined Hoyt’s Truck Center as Project Manager in 2020. Her husband, Brock, also joined the Hoyt’s Truck Center team in 2022. He’s its Financial Officer and Analyst.
Savannah is increasingly involved in the Savannah Transport business. She looks forward to working on making her namesake one of the best trucking companies in the West and Midwest. So, the tradition and a bright outlook continue.
